# 106/Societal In a town of a northern Indian state of Bihar, a lady teacher publicly stabbed to death a state legislator (MLA) belonging to the ruling alliance. She alleges that the legislator and his men raped her repeatedly and that the State Police took no action on her complaint. It is now an open secret that India has slipped into crony capitalism where the rich and mighty are ushering in the law of jungle, doing anything they like with impunity. ^ To protect the image of the slain legislator, the Bihar government ordered "cremation with all state honors." Was it justified? Given due process of law, the woman-assailant might prove that she is not the killer of a legislator but the killer of a rapist.
