Tripartite agreement on GTA to be signed on 18th July SNEHANGSHU ADHIKARI | Kolkata, July 15, 2011 10:02 Another successful step to fulfill her promises as Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee on Friday took a step ahead. The Darjeeling tripartite agreement between Union Government, state and Gorkha Janamukti Morcha is going to be signed on 18th July at Sukna. Union home minister P. Chidambaram is likely to come down at Sukna to sign the same. In a conference with media on Friday the Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee confirmed this. Is it a 'durable solution' or 'buying temporary peace' – of course a matter of long debate, but dealing Darjeeling in such a 'darling attitude', Mamata Banerjee defined what political will and management is all about. But as center was are not giving any specific date for signing the final tripartite agreement, the journey towards the Hill-solution or the proposed Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) with some special development package didn't seem so cake-walk either. Before signing the deal, the UPA government had asked to sort out some 'specific issues' with GJM. In terms of clarification West Bengal chief secretary Samar Ghose said,

In terms of clarification West Bengal chief secretary Samar Ghose said," Center is very much keen to sign the agreement, but the date is yet to be finalized. Most of the issues of our bipartite agreement have been agreed upon. There are two or three minor issues, we are trying to sort them out with GJM." And needless to say, it has already been sorted out.

Soon after taking oath as Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee promised of a concrete solution could be found within three months regarding the political turmoil in Darjeeling. And signing the bipartite agreement with Gorkha Janmukti Morcha just on the 18th day of her regime Mamata proved the old proverb again – Where there is a will, there is a way. Being asked about the magic formula, Mamata replied - "Only development is my magic formula. If the intention is good, there is always a way out and the magic formula is peace." And the magic still continues by means of the magical date 18th July.
