Anil Parashar 10:22pm Jul 7 PRESS RELEASE NHRC organizes a national seminar on Religion and Human Rights New Delhi Dated: 7th July, 2011 The National Human Rights Commission organized a national seminar on Religion and Human Rights in Hindi in collaboration with an NGO, Bhartiya Charitra Nirman Sansthan in New Delhi today. Inaugurating the seminar, Mr. Justice K. G. Balakrishnan , Chairperson NHRC said that the religion is an essence of human rights . The human rights are applied to all the human beings irrespective of their caste, language, faith, place, or gender and the complementarities between the religion and the human rights have to be seen in this context. If the religion is the theory of life, then its application translates into the human rights. Justice Balakrishnan said that in modern times, when traditional value system in the society is fast changing and discipline of religion and fear of God is fading, the concept of the human rights is in a way providing a new philosophy to civil life. Earlier, welcoming the guests, Dr. Rajiv Sharma, Secretary General, NHRC said that truth, non-violence and sacrifice, which manifest in propagation of the human rights, form the roots of Indian culture which has continuously enriched itself with different faiths. He said that NHRC is committed to making the human rights movement more strong and in view of this, it has been organizing a series of thematic seminars in Hindi on various aspects of the human rights to generate awareness. The seminar on Religion and Human Rights is another effort in that direction. So far seven such national seminars have been organized in different parts of the country. The seminar was addressed by prominent scholars including Dr. Mohammad Hanif Khan Shastri, who spoke on Srimadbhagvadgita, Quran Sharif and Human Rights, Dr. M.D. Thomas on Christianity and Human Rights and Professor Rita Bagchi on Jainism, Buddhism ,Sikhism and Human Rights. Dr. Y. P.
