Breaking: Kevin McCarthy drops out of House speaker race |08 Oct 2015 | House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy has dropped out of the race to succeed Speaker John Boehner, a shocking move that throws the House into chaos. The move came without warning as House Republicans were in a closed-door meeting to select their nominee for speaker, with McCarthy's wife and kids in the room. Boehner subsequently postponed the vote. Boehner is poised to resign at the end of the month and there is no clear successor who can unite the conference and win the post.
Top Ukraine official backs idea 'to help ISIS take revenge on Russian soldiers in Syria' [Since the US backs and funds Ukraine, the US would therefore become - surprise, surprise - a de facto ally of ISIS.] | 07 Oct 2015 | Russian prosecutors have charged a prominent Ukrainian politician with inciting terrorism, after he called for Islamic State to attack Russian pilots involved in the campaign against ISIS in Syria. Anton Gerashchenko, an adviser to Ukrainian Interior Minister Arsen Avakov, shared a message from a Facebook "friend" [sociopath] who wants to help ISIS [I-CIA-SIS] militants take revenge against Russian forces in Syria "in accordance with Sharia law." "I think that their faces [on TV] will be enough, so that Islamic State militants and their supporters in Russia, the majority of whom are in the Caucasus region, could then find them and take revenge [on them] under Sharia law," the Facebook user wrote to Gerashchenko. Gerashchenko, who also attached an RT video showing Russian military jets in Syria in his post, seemed to be inspired by the idea...
Death Toll in U.S. Airstrike on Doctors Without Borders Hospital May Rise, Group Says | 08 Oct 2015 | The death toll may increase significantly from an a U.S. airstrike that devastated the Doctors Without Borders hospital in Kunduz, Afghanistan, officials from the organization said on Thursday, as the search continued for 24 staff members, many of them feared to be dead. The deaths of 12 hospital staff members and 10 patients have been confirmed in the American airstrike, with an additional 37 people wounded. Five days after the Oct. 3 attack, Doctors Without Borders has still been unable to find the 24 staff members, despite having a hotline for them to call. The American warplane that attacked the hospital, believed to be an AC-130 gunship supporting American Special Operations or Special Forces troops, made five bombing runs, spaced about 15 minutes apart, beginning at 2:08 a.m. on Saturday, Doctors Without Borders officials said, and the attack continued for an hour and 15 minutes.

In an interview with PBS, Clinton said "as of today, I am not in favor of what I have learned about it"...Clinton criticized it in particular for failing to address currency manipulation and because of her worries that "pharmaceutical companies may have gotten more benefits and patients and consumers got fewer".
Wondering why the US media is working tirelessly to push Joe Biden to enter the presidential race? Biden backing TPP deal despite union opposition | 08 Oct 2015 | Labor unions are warning U.S. Vice President Joe Biden that his support for a major trade corporate takeover pact with Asia could make it difficult for them to support him if he runs for president. The vice president "supports the TPP agreement and will help pass it on the Hill," his office said. Biden has defended the deal publicly, and lobbied Democratic lawmakers last year to give Obama fast-track authority. He also worked to seal the deal abroad, calling for its completion during conversations with Japanese and Canadian leaders.

Keys, 28, of Vacaville, was convicted of giving the group the login credentials to the Tribune Company's computer system. The company owns the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune, Baltimore Sun and other media companies. His attorneys contended any alteration was a relatively harmless prank that did not merit charges carrying a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison. As a first-time offender, prosecutors say, Keys will face far less time at his 20 January sentencing.

Ben Carson struggles to explain debt limit stance | 07 Oct 2015 | Ben Carson struggled in an interview to explain whether he would support increasing the limit of debt that the country can incur, raising fresh questions about his understanding of the policy questions of the day. In a tense back and forth on NPR's Marketplace with Kai Ryssdal, the Republican presidential candidate did not directly answer whether he'd support raising the caps, known as the debt ceiling, in order to prevent a default on some obligations. The Treasury Department has said the government will hit the limit in November, and some Republicans in the past have advocated for using the debt negotiations as leverage to extract spending cuts from Democrats.
