The RTI Act shouldn't be amended without more discussion. Ask the Speaker of the Lok Sabha to refer it to a Standing Committee.
Sign The Petition

Dear Palash -

We just have a few hours to save the RTI Act.

The Parliament is set to vote on the RTI Amendment Bill any time now. If the Bill is passed, political parties in India would be excluded from the purview of the RTI Act.

We should not let the amendment be made without more public discussion

The Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Smt. Meira Kumar, has the power to refer the amendment to a Parliamentary Committee for more discussion.

Palash , here is what you can do immediately

1. Sign this petition and forward it to your family and friends.
2. Call the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Smt. Meira Kumar, immediately and ask her to refer the Bill to a select parliamentary committee. Here are the details.
    • Call the Speaker's Office - (011) 23017795, 23017914
    • You might get her secretary or PA on the phone.
    • Ask to speak to the Speaker, Smt. Meira Kumar, or leave a message for her with them.
Here are a few talking points-
      • The RTI Act is one of the most powerful laws that democratic India has and it should not be diluted.
      • As a citizen of India, I am concerned about the RTI Act being amended without any public consultation.
      • Please refer the amendment to a standing committee for further discussion.
3. Share your conversation on Facebook and Twitter.

Your message, signature and share will strengthen our voice against this amendment, and help save the RTI Act from being diluted.

Thank you for taking action,
