'Korean Peninsula inching towards war' 26 Nov 2010 North Korea has slammed the US-South Korea's military exercises, saying the drills could push the Korean Peninsula to a state of war. "The situation on the Korean Peninsula is inching closer to the brink of war due to the reckless plan of those trigger-happy elements to stage again war exercises targeted against the (North)," said the North's official news agency, KCNA. The United States and South Korea are going to start the drills on Sunday.

Explosions heard off Yeonpyeong Island 26 Nov 2010 Two explosions have been heard off Yeonpyeong Island near the disputed border in the Yellow Sea, South Korea's military says. "We're checking the origin of the sounds," a Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesman told AFP on Friday. On Tuesday, Seoul and Pyongyang exchanged artillery fire on the Yellow Sea border island of Yeonpyeong and each blamed the other side for starting the skirmish.

South Korea Replaces Defense Chief as North Rattles Investors 26 Nov 2010 South Korean President Lee Myung Bak may replace his defense chief with a key security aide as tensions rise before military exercises with the U.S. that North Korea said will take the peninsula to the "brink of war." Investors sold Asian stocks and made the South Korean won the world's worst-performing currency against the dollar today as the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Washington headed toward the Yellow Sea. North Korea threatened a "shower of terrifying fire" should its sovereignty be infringed.

Korean conflict termed 'US provocation' 25 Nov 2010 Tensions are running high in the Korean Peninsula as the North threatens further attacks to counter what it has described as South Korea's provocations. A spokesman for the DPRK Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Wednesday saying that the South carried out live-fire exercises in areas near the West Sea island of Yeonpyeong at 1300 hours local time Tuesday, the North's official news agency reported. Pyongyang has also blamed the US for provoking the artillery exchange between the two sides that left two South Korean marines and two civilians dead.

The aircraft carrier George Washington steamed to join military exercises with South Korea in a move meant to deter further attacks by the Pyongyang government and 'prevent' an all-out war.

U.S. to Send Carrier for Joint Exercises Off Korea 24 Nov 2010 President Obama and South Korea's president agreed Tuesday night to hold joint military exercises as a first response to North Korea's deadly shelling of a South Korean military installation [after South Korea fired shots]. The exercise will include sending the aircraft carrier George Washington and a number of accompanying ships into the region... The decision to send the aircraft carrier came as the South Korean military went into what it termed "crisis status."

The documents "touch on an enormous range of very sensitive foreign policy issues," Assistant Secretary for Legislative Affairs Elizabeth King wrote yesterday in an e-mail to the defense panels.

WILL ISSUES RELATING TO AUSTRALIA & THE SECRETIVE BRITISH MONARCHY BE AMONG THE LEAKS?
Government on alert over WikiLeaks spill 26 Nov 2010 Australian officials are bracing for a massive leak of classified US State Department cables. These cables could include embarrassing disclosures about Canberra's secret diplomacy on controversial issues, such as the war in Iraq. The Gillard government was one of several foreign governments put on notice about the leaks, expected to be released within days by whistleblower group WikiLeaks. So seriously is the issue being taken that several sources told The Australian it was raised during a phone call yesterday morning between Foreign Minister Kevin Rudd and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss the crisis on the Korean peninsula.

WikiLeaks material will include cables sent to Washington from American embassies throughout the world.

"We are gearing up for the worst-case scenario, that leaked cables will touch on a wide range of issues and countries," Crowley told AFP. The spokesman added that "we've known all along that WikiLeaks has in its possession State Department cables."

Classified Papers Prove German Warnings to Bush --Berlin Efforts to Prevent Iraq Invasion 24 Nov 2010 A classified document obtained by SPIEGEL shows notes from a meeting between a top German diplomat and Condoleezza Rice just weeks before the Iraq invasion. It indicates steps by the German government to prevent the war and undermines claims in George W. Bush's memoir that Gerhard Schröder indicated he would support the president should the US go to war. Gerhard Schröder and Joschka Fischer made every effort they could. The German chancellor and foreign minister spared no effort with their appeals, whether in public or private, in small groups or with the eyes of the entire world upon them.

His killing is the sixth of a journalist in Iraq this year, according to the International Press Institute's figures.

Iraq defaults on millions in welfare payments 22 Nov 2010 Iraq has run out of money to pay for widows' benefits, farm crops and other programmes for the poor, its parliament was told yesterday. In only their fourth session since being elected in March, MPs demanded to know what happened to the estimated £625 million allocated for welfare funding by the finance ministry for 2010. The MPs' eagerness to take up an issue dear to their constituents may have been aimed in part to reverse public scorn for their own lavish pay.

The confidential report, obtained by Reuters on Tuesday, did not give any reason for the unusual move by Iran to briefly stop feeding material into centrifuge machines used to refine uranium.

The municipality, in confirming this, said all 10 had residence and work permits, and that it could not restrict the workforce under its current contract with the subcontractor.

U.S. may replace color-coded terror-alert system with more-specific warnings 24 Nov 2010 The Obama administration is considering abandoning the color-coded terrorism-alert system that became a barometer of the nation's anxieties after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks and replacing it with advisories that provide more detailed guidance on emerging threats. A proposal drafted by the Department of Homeland Security and submitted to the White House urges a shift toward more-tailored threat warnings and the dismantling of the five-color scheme that was often mocked for alarming people but providing little useful guidance on how they should respond, U.S. officials said.

US to foot bill for hundreds of surveillance cameras for downtown Houston --Homeland Security picking up tab for 250-300 surveillance cameras --Every downtown intersection will be equipped with a camera. 24 Nov 2010 The city is installing 250 to 300 cameras at downtown intersections in an effort to prevent and fight terrorism and crime, part of a security initiative sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "The intent is to protect critical infrastructure and prevent terrorism," said Dennis Storemski, the city's director of the Office of Public Safety and Homeland Security. "Experience has shown that when people plan terroristic acts, they plan and they do dry runs, so what we would be looking for is suspicious activity around certain locations. And for any crimes, you can go back and look at the video and identify the perpetrators."

Andrew Napolitano, Fox Business Host, Reveals He Is a 9/11 Truther 24 Nov 2010 Fox Business host Andrew Napolitano revealed on Tuesday that he does not believe the government's account of the 9/11 attacks. Napolitano, who hosts "Freedom Watch" on Fox Business and is frequently seen on Fox News as a legal analyst, told radio host Alex Jones that the attacks "couldn't possibly have been done the way the government told us." The subject came about when Jones noted that Geraldo Rivera had recently raised questions about the collapse of World Trade Center 7 on Napolitano's Fox Business Show. 9/11 conspiracy theorists have centered on that building's collapse, contending that it was blown up by government forces. [It was. Sorry, but physics and math don't lie. You'd have to shave 50 points off your IQ to believe the conspiracy theories surrounding the 9/11 terror attacks postulated by the US government to garner support for the never-ending 'war on terror.' Put SSA Hotchner onto the case and have it solved in 44 minutes. --LRP]

The investigation by Barry Kluger, the Inspector General (IG) of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, found that supervisors were forcing their employees to falsely report inspections or face punishments, such as loss of overtime, or being forced to work in the most undesirable locations, including the dirtiest and most leaky tunnels.

Oh-but-another visit to Dumbf*ck City: Sarah Palin: 'We Gotta Stand With Our North Korean Allies' 25 Nov 2010 Sarah Palin said in an interview with Glenn Beck Wednesday that North Korea was a U.S. ally. When asked by Beck how she would handle a situation like the one that was developing in North Korea, Palin responded: "This is stemming from, I think, a greater problem when we're all sitting around asking, 'Oh no, what are we going to do,' and we're not having a lot of faith that the White House is going to come out with a strong enough policy to sanction what it is that North Korea is going to do." Palin continued: "Obviously, we gotta stand with our North Korean allies," when Beck interrupted and corrected her to say "South Korea." "And we're also bound by prudence to stand with our South Korean allies, yes," she responded.

US creates vast polar bear refuge in Alaska as seas warm and ice melts --Oil and gas companies told to steer clear of protected wildlife habitat, but already corpora-terrorists are pushing to carry on drilling 25 Nov 2010 The Obama administration today designated more than 187,000 square miles as a protected area for polar bears, which have been designated by the US as a threatened species. But environmental groups said the area - which consists mainly of ice off the coast of Alaska - was only a start and does not guarantee protection from threats by climate change and oil and gas.

'Critical habitat' set aside in Alaska for polar bears 24 Nov 2010 The setting aside of 187,000 square miles in Alaska as "critical habitat" for polar bears could have an impact on oil and gas drilling, federal and environmental officials said Wednesday. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) designated the land along the north coast of Alaska as part of a partial settlement in a lawsuit filed by environmental groups.

Corporate Profits Were Highest on Record Last Quarter 24 Nov 2010 The nation's workers may be struggling, but American companies just had their best quarter ever. American businesses 'earned' profits at an annual rate of $1.66 trillion in the third quarter, according to a Commerce Department report released Tuesday. That is the highest figure recorded since the government began keeping track over 60 years ago, at least in nominal or non-inflation-adjusted terms. Corporate profits have been going gangbusters for a while. Since their cyclical low in the fourth quarter of 2008, profits have grown for seven consecutive quarters, at some of the fastest rates in history.

S.Korea, U.S. troops raise surveillance alert on N.Korea 24 Nov 2010 The militaries of South Korea and the United States have upgraded the surveillance alert against North Korea as tensions were rising from the North's artillery bombing on a South Korean island, military officials said Wednesday. "The two sides raised the surveillance alert to Watchcon-2 from Watchcon-3 Tuesday night," a South Korean military official said.

'US held talks with fake Taliban head' --"It's not him," a Western diplomat in Kabul said. "And we gave him a lot of money." 23 Nov 2010 Senior Afghan and US officials have confirmed reports of a series of secret peace talks with a fake Taliban leader in Kabul over the past months, a media report says. According to the New York Times, secret talks between officials and a senior Taliban commander collapsed after Washington concluded they were dealing with an impostor. The secret high profile talks with Mulla Akhtar Muhammad Mansour -- a senior commander of the Taliban -- were intended to end the nine-year long war. However, the man was apparently not Mansour at all. ['And we gave him a lot of money.' LOL, that goes without saying. USociopaths handle 'diplomacy' in one of two ways: bombing or bribing.]
