Abida Parveen, the Pakistani singer with the truly amazing voice, is
in Mumbai over the weekend. She's performing at the Aman Ki Asha
concert at Bandra Fort on Sunday evening with our Shubha Mudgal….As
for Aman Ki Asha, through which musicians including ghazal, Sufi, folk
and qawalli artistes from both countries will perform across six
cities of India starting tomorrow...Abida Parveen struggled for words
again, then said, "Inshallah, when the two countries have so much in
common, peace will one day prevail, Sufi music will have a role in
this. Music transcends barriers of language, culture and creed. Music
is art. And the most difficult situations are presented so easily by
art. Yeh Khuda ka kanoon hai, yeh rab kar raha hai, aap dua farmai"…

… Like a carnival of fitness enthusiasts where age, religion and
gender extended no biases, there were participants dancing to the
tunes of Nagada Nagada and World Hold On. Senior citizens breaking
into an imprompttu phugdi, volunteers holding hands of visually
impaired Dream runners and many holding out saplings for a greener
Mumbai. Colourful and creative costumes conveyed slogans of better
health, water conservation, arresting pollution levels as people
cheered from the sides for the runners. The causes were plenty. And
the strong message of love and peace was clear.
