Wendell Hall's a quadruple threat here, as lyricist, composer, vocalist and ukelele player. The nonsense verses are largely of folk origin (Hall provided an additional 48 for the intrepid)...the song was the #1 hit in America for six weeks and sold over 2,000,000 copies. IT AIN'T GONNA RAIN NO MO' Wendell Hall, 1923 1. Oh! the night was dark and dreary. The air was full of sleet. The old man stood out in the storm. His shoes were full of feet. CHORUS: Oh! it ain't gonna rain no mo', no mo'. It ain't gonna rain no mo', But how in the world can the old folks tell it ain't a-gonna rain no mo'? 2. Oh! Mosquito he fly high. Mosquito he fly low. If old man 'Skeeta light on me, he ain't gonna fly no mo'. IT AIN'T GONNA RAIN NO MO Extra Verses - Repeat Chorus after Each Verse By Wendell Hall 1. Oh, the butterfly flits on wings of gold, the June-bug wings of flame. The bedbug has no wings at all, but he gets there just the same. 2. Oh, a bullfrog sittin' on a lily pad, lookin' up at the skies. The lily pad broke and the frog fell in, got water all in his eyes. 3. Oh, a black and white animal out in the woods. Says, "Ain't that little cat pretty?" I went right over to pick it up, but it wasn't that kind of a kitty. 4. Oh, a man lay down by a sewer, and by the sewer he died. Now, at the coroner's re-quest, they called it sewer-side. 5. Here's a verse 'bout a man and a trombone. The words to it are few. He blew, he blew, he blew, he blew, he blooey, blooey, blue. 6. Oh, I saw a sign in a hardware store: "Boy wanted, sixteen years." Now, that's too long to wait for a boy. It brings eyes to my tears. 7. Possum up a 'simmon tree, rabbit on the ground. Rabbit say: "You old son-of-a-gun, shake them 'simmons down." 8. Got a li'l ol' dog whose name is Jack. I wish they'd bring him back. He chases the big hogs over the fence and the little ones through the crack. 9. Now, Mary had a little lamb. It had a sooty foot. In little Mary's bread and jam, his sooty foot he put. 10. A peanut sittin' on a railroad track, its heart was all a-flutter. The train came roarin' round a curve. Toot, toot! Peanut butter. 11. I know a Swedish waitress. Her maiden name was Schwartz. Good gosh! the gal was homely like a dishpan full of warts. 12. The fox he has a bushy tail. The possum's tail is bare. The rabbit has no tail at all, but only a tuft of hair. 13. Now, I sat down in the garden. A bee came buzzin' round, So I stood up and let the bee sit where I sat down. 14. Oh, I've got a gal with big blue eyes and the sweetest ruby lips, But she ain't got no more pepper than a garter snake has hips. 15. A bare-headed man, bewildered, says to me, "Where am I at?" Now, I don't think that's what he meant. He meant, "Where is my hat?" 16. Got a redhead gal in Chicago. Got a letter from her today. Here's what she said: "My hair was red, but now you've turned it gray." 17. Get away from my front window. Quit knockin' at my front door, 'Cause I've got another sweetie and I can't use you no mo'. 18. Oh, the air was full of raindrops and the street was full of hims. They stood around like tree trunks a-lookin' at the limbs. 19. She was happy till she met him, then she left him all alone, 'Cause the big ox slipped and his trousers ripped and he broke his collarbone. 20. Oh, they tell me that a graveyard is a dawg-gone lonesome place. They pull you down into a hole and throw mud in your face. (Etc.) «

Al Qaeda is More of a U.S. Propaganda Campaign than a Real Organization
Jump to Comments
Al-Qaida, literally “the database”, was originally the computer file of the thousands of mujahideen who were recruited and trained with help from the CIA to defeat the Russians.
Former National Security Adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski told the Senate that the war on terror is “a mythical historical narrative”.
And see this Los Angeles Times Article, reviewing a BBC documentary entitled “The Power of Nightmares”, which shows that the threat from Al Qaeda has been vastly overblown (and see this article on the people within the U.S. who are behind the hype).
Not only has the U.S. government hyped Al Qaeda, but it has issued numerous fake terror alerts to scare people.
There is a word for intentionally creating fear in order to manipulate opinion for political ends: terrorism.
Note: I had originally started this essay with the following quote:
“Former British Foreign Secretary Robin Cook says:
The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al Qaida. And any informed intelligence officer knows this. But there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an identified entity representing the ‘devil’ only in order to drive the TV watcher to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the US.”
However, I did a little digging, and discovered that the quote was misattributed to Cook. It was actually made by former French intelligence and military officer Pierre-Henri Bunel in this speech.

A few journalists received messages in their cell phones stating that time has come now to divorce the couple to give a small break to the rain which claimed 18 lives in the State and 11 in Mangalore taluk alone. "Consult lawyers for divorce of newly wedded frogs, otherwise more rains will destroy our life and property" reads a message.
Recently, an elected representative of rain-fed districts of Karnataka has turned to frogs to soothe the parched throats here in the wake of monsoon failure. Taking the initiative to appease the Rain God in a unique way, independent Udupi Nagarika Vedike President known for his "innovative" ideas, arranged a marriage of the croaky amphibians in the city.
Some people felt that both ‘bride and bridegroom’ seems to be unhappy the way in which marriage was conducted, where only 50 people attended the ceremony. Further, no reception was organized to guests and relatives. So, angry couple prayed for rain havoc in which people believe that it claimed lives and damage to their property.
Now, courts in Mangalore and Udupi remained closed on Saturday and Sunday, the people who arranged the marriage can look for divorce only on Monday. Some lawyers may not come forward to divorce the couple since it is considered as sin. Further, we don’t know how much fee the lawyer would charge for the legal divorce!
One intellectual said the people of Udupi learnt a lesson by conducting the marriage of frogs. In future they will not do it, the intellectual said and dismissed it as a mere blind belief. Interestingly, in Varanasi too, last year the farmers had organized marriage of frogs to bring rains to their fields.
"Our elders used to say that the croaking of frogs heralds rains. Hence, the people undertook this marriage of frogs", another person said and justified the marriage of frogs," said others.
While some in the crowd found it funny, the others thought of it as a novel idea, but a few questioned the rationale behind such a move and thought it was a very superstitious practice.

No rains despite frog marriages
SANJAY SHARMA, INDO-ASIAN NEWS SERVICE
Bhopal, July 1 (IANS) The bride and groom are dressed, sprinkled with turmeric and vermilion and taken in a procession to the nearest pond for their 'honeymoon' with fervent prayers that the amphibian marriage would bring much-needed rain. But no showers are anywhere in sight in Madhya Pradesh.
This is the scene in Chhindwara district where villagers are busy organising and attending the weddings of frogs.
'Frog weddings are a tradition here. These weddings are being held in some village or the other in the district because of the monsoon being delayed,' said a villager.
People in rural Chhindwara, 300 km from Bhopal, and in several other parts of the state believe that it will rain if they 'please' the frogs by getting them married.
'Even in this hi-tech era, we have a strong belief in this tradition. It may seem like superstition. But once we perform the weddings we get good rains,' Kukku Bai, former president of the Khapa village council, told IANS on telephone.
A frog marriage was performed in the village Wednesday.
A mahurat (auspicious time) is first set for the wedding. The bride and groom are then dressed in clothes dipped in turmeric. Villagers sprinkle the 'couple' with turmeric and vermilion and then take them out in a procession.
Three women release the couple into a nearby pond at the end of the wedding. Prayers are recited and flowers showered into the pond. The couple is left to begin the 'honeymoon' and the village is hopeful the effort will bring on the rains. So far, however, the ritual has not led to rains.
That has not hit the expectations anyway. The entire village is invited to the ritual.
'We are all agriculture-dependent people and this is the time to start farming. So for a good crop we need good rains, and for that we perform frog marriages,' said Beni Prasad, a farmer from village Khapa.
'For ages now we have followed the belief that if we perform these weddings we will have a good monsoon. If we get the frogs wedded, then Varuna, the god of the oceans, will bless us with rains,' he stated.
'We have performed the wedding and are hopeful that rains will soon lash our village,' said Parvati Bai, a villager.
Similar rituals have been performed in Chandangaon, Baredi, Ramakona, Borgaon, Pipla and other villagers to please the rain gods.
The weatherman has predicted that the monsoon is likely to hit the state Sunday.
In June, Chhindwara had only 34 mm rainfall, whereas the normal requirement for sowing crops is 100 mm of rain.
'This is the first time in the past 30 years that the rains have been so scanty throughout June,' said C.K. Jain, an official of the agriculture department.
Thanks.
